On Saturday, November 21, an adult ticket at the Miami Book Fair Street Fair gate costs $12. A ticket to hear Salman Rushdie and Rachel Eliza Griffiths five nights earlier costs $20, and it comes with a free pass to that same weekend Street Fair. For $8 more than the gate price, you get one of the most talked-about conversations of the week and the weekend too.
That bundle is how this year's fair at Miami Dade College's Wolfson Campus is set up. The 43rd edition runs November 15 to 22, and the Street Fair takes over downtown November 20 to 22. If you plan the weeknights first and the weekend second, the whole week costs less than buying each piece separately.
What the Evening Ticket Carries
The fair sells two kinds of tickets that don't overlap. Street Fair admission covers the weekend outdoor fair and its free sessions. Evenings With and selected weekend author sessions need their own ticket, separate from Street Fair admission. Paid author sessions this year run from $20 to $45.
The two tickets connect in one place. Miami Book Fair's Rushdie event page says each purchased, companion, and complimentary Friends of the Fair Evenings With ticket "includes a free pass to the weekend Street Fair."
Here is how that plays out next to the gate prices posted on the fair overview page:
- One adult, Saturday only: $12 at the gate, or $20 for Margaret Atwood's 11 a.m. session that same Saturday with the weekend pass included.
- One adult, the full weekend: an $18 multiday ticket, or a $20 weeknight ticket such as Rushdie, or Brad Meltzer and Brad Thor.
- Two adults, the full weekend: $36 for two multiday tickets, or $45 for Colson Whitehead's evening. That price covers a $35 ticket with a copy of his book, a $10 companion ticket, and a weekend pass for each person.
Friday changes the math entirely. Street Fair admission on November 20 is free for everyone, and children 12 and under get in free all three days. The included pass is worth the most to someone who wants Saturday or Sunday specifically.
The Week, Night by Night

| Sat., Nov. 21 | 11 a.m. | Margaret Atwood with Jess Gibson | $20, no book |
Three listings aren't consistent across the fair's own materials. The main ticketed-events list puts Colson Whitehead on Friday, November 20, at 7 p.m. His event page and the printed Fair Guide both say Thursday, November 19, at 8 p.m. David Grutman's ticket shows as $30 in one place and $35 with a book in another. The guide says Victoria Aveyard's $20 ticket includes her book, but her event page doesn't say so. Before you pay, check the date and what the ticket includes on the event page.
Which Ticket Gives You the Most
The book-bundled tickets cost more up front, but they come with the most. A $35 Shalhoub, Planet Money, or Whitehead ticket includes the featured book, entry, and a weekend pass. Each also allows one $10 companion ticket without a book. Jeff Garlin's $45 ticket works the same way, and the event page confirms that both the purchased and companion tickets include the Street Fair pass. Elena Armas's evening with Meg Cabot costs $25 with the book and the weekend pass.
The $20 tickets for Rushdie, Meltzer and Thor, and Atwood don't include a book. Each still comes with the weekend pass, so the extra cost over an $18 multiday ticket is small. The Rushdie page links to Books & Books if you want the book ahead of time. It also says everyone attending will go through a bag check and metal detectors or a security wand before entering the Chapman Conference Center, so plan on extra time at the door.
The free-but-ticketed nights are a good fit for anyone already going to the weekend. Monday's 6:30 p.m. conversation brings together former Miami mayor Manny Diaz and architect Elizabeth Plater-Zyberk, moderated by Victor Dover, to talk about the lessons of growing Miami into a livable 21st-century city. It is probably the most Miami-focused event of the week, and it costs nothing beyond reserving a seat. The fair says evening-program tickets are required even when an event is free.
Two Free Bookends, and a Lounge in Between
The week opens with a free event before any ticket is needed. The Opening Day Block Party runs Sunday, November 15, from 4 to 9 p.m. on the Wolfson Campus plaza. This year's theme is "Made in Miami: Through the Decades," a tour of the city's dance music from Cuban classics and early disco through freestyle, Miami bass, and house. DJ and producer Oscar G headlines, with DJs Ciro Llerena, Lazaro Casanova, Jesse Perez, and Pack-a-Day, plus a live percussion and vocal set from Oba Frank Lords. Admission is free for all ages, and Smorgasburg Miami is curating the food and drinks. Shalhoub and Adams go on at 7 p.m. that same evening, so one trip downtown covers both.
From Monday through Thursday, the Lost Chapter Lounge opens in the Building 1 Atrium from 6 to 10 p.m. Miami Dade College describes it as a place for cocktails, mocktails, and a different music groove each night before and after the Evenings With programs. Most evening events take place in Building 1, so the lounge is just downstairs.
The Street Fair weekend opens with free Friday on November 20. Street Fair gates open at 9 a.m., and the fair runs 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday. Children's Alley runs all three days with hands-on activities, art, performances, and author storytimes. The IberoAmerican program adds free Spanish-language events, and the fair offers programming in English, Spanish, and Haitian Creole.
Getting Downtown Without Paying to Park
Miami Dade College's Wolfson Campus garage is free from November 15 to 22. It is at 500 NE Second Avenue, and the entrance is on NE Fifth Street. The fair gives drivers 145 NE Fifth Street as the address to plan their route, and it notes that the streets around campus close during the fair. The free garage may fill up. The fair's directions page and the 2026 Fair Guide list $5 garages as backups, though the two don't list the same ones.
Transit drops you closer than any garage. Take Metrorail to Government Center, switch to Metromover, and get off at College Bayside or College North. Brightline riders can switch to Metromover's Inner Loop for the same stops. Ride-share drop-off is at the Green entrance on NE First Avenue, south of NE Third Street.
Picking a weeknight and the weekend that comes with it is a lot like the planning I do with clients every day: compare what each option actually includes before you commit.
